Lamborghini is making big promises for its upcoming Urus SUV. R&D chief Maurizio Reggiani claims it will be the world’s fastest SUV when it debuts. That debut isn’t for another three years so there’s plenty of time for Lamborghini to make good on that claim.

According to Motoring, the Urus will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine rather thant the current naturally aspirated V10 and V12 engines. Those don’t have enough low-down torque for an SUV designed to tackle off-road terrain.

Reggiani not only confirmed that the Urus will be more powerful than the Bentley Bentayga, but that it will sprint from 0-62 mph in less than four seconds. This beats the Bentley Bentaya and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S at 4.1 seconds and BMW X6 M at 4.2 seconds.

Urus prototypes are currently roaming the dunes in the Middle East to make sure they’re off-road worthy, although how many owners will actually put it to the test is up for debate. Reggiani sees the Urus as the future of the company and expects it to boost their volume from 2530 units last year all the way to 6000 units. Expect to see the Lamborghini Urus at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

H Lamborghini παρουσίασε στην έκθεση του Πεκίνου στα τέλη του Απριλίου, το Urus Concept, το πολυσυζητημένο SUV της, για την έκδοση παραγωγής του οποίου, τώρα μαθαίνουμε περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες, μέσω του διευθυντή έρευνας και ανάπτυξης της Lamborghini, Maurizio Reggiani.

Ο Reggiani μίλησε στο Autonews και δήλωσε ότι η παραγωγή του θα ξεκινήσει το 2017 και θα κατασκευαστεί πάνω στη πλατφόρμα PL73 του VW Group, πάνω στην οποία θα κατασκευαστούν οι επόμενες γενιές των Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg και η έκδοση παραγωγής του Bentley EXP 9 F Concept.

Θα ζυγίζει 2.000 κιλά και θα διαθέτει αρκετά μέρη από CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) και καπό, πόρτες και πορτμπαγκάζ κατασκευασμένα από ένα μείγμα αλουμινίου-μαγνησίου.

Μηχανικά η έκδοση παραγωγής δεν θα φορά τον V10 5.2-λίτρων που φορά το πρωτότυπο, αλλά έναν νέο Twin-Turbo V8 κινητήρα, ο οποίος θα βασιστεί πάνω στον ατμοσφαιρικό 4.2-λίτρων κινητήρα της Audi, και θα αποδίδει 608 άλογα.

Η Lamborghini σκοπεύει να πουλά 3.000 Urus τον χρόνο με τον Reggiani να τονίζει ότι το εργοστάσιο της Lamborghini στην Sant’ Agata Bolognese να μην μπορεί να χειριστεί εξολοκλήρου τη παραγωγή του, αλλά η τελική συναρμολόγηση του θα γίνεται σε αυτό. A newly discovered asteroid the size of a city bus gave Earth a close shave this morning (Dec. 19), zipping well within the orbit of the moon.

The near-Earth asteroid 2015 YB, which is about 34 feet (10 meters) wide, cruised within a mere 36,800 miles (59,220 kilometers) of the planet at around 7 a.m. EST (1200 GMT) today, just two days after the space rock was first spotted.

To put that near miss in perspective: The moon orbits Earth at an average distance of 239,000 miles (384,600 km), and geosynchronous satellites fly about 22,000 miles (35,400 km) from the planet's surface. [Potentially Dangerous Asteroids in Photos]

The online Slooh Community Observatory webcast live views of asteroid 2015 YB on Friday night. Slooh nicknamed the small asteroid "The Flea," after Argentinian soccer superstar Lionel Messi, who stands just 5 feet, 7 inches tall. The asteroid was traveling at roughly 32,300 mph (52,000 km/h) relative to Earth at the time of closest approach, according to scientists with NASA's Near-Earth Object Program, which is based at the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

2015 YB is one of millions of asteroids that orbit the sun in Earth's neighborhood. The vast majority of these space rocks remain undetected; researchers have found and catalogued just 13,500 near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) to date.  

Some of these rocks have Earth in their crosshairs; the planet has been pummeled repeatedly since its birth 4.5 billion years ago, and will continue to take cosmic punishment for eons to come.

Most of these collisions involve objects the size of 2015 YB or smaller, which do no appreciable damage. But bigger asteroids do occasionally slam into Earth, and the consequences can be devastating. For example, scientists think that a strike by a 6-mile-wide (10 km) asteroid caused the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

But there's good news as well. About 95 percent of the biggest NEAs out there — rocks at least 0.6 miles wide (1 km), which could wreak havoc on a global scale, and potentially even threaten human civilization, if they hit Earth — have already been spotted and tracked. None pose a threat for the foreseeable future.

Ο πρόεδρος Λι Κετσιάνγκ ζήτησε επίσημη έρευνα για το βιομηχανικό ατύχημα στη νότια πόλη Σενζέν, το οποίο έγινε τέσσερις μήνες μετά από τεράστιες χημικές εκρήξεις στο νότιο λιμάνι Τιανζίν οι οποίες είχαν προκαλέσει εκτεταμένες και ανεξέλεγκτες φωτιές, φέρνοντας το θάνατο σε πάνω από 160 άτομα. Τμήμα του κύριου αγωγού φυσικού αερίου της Κίνας που ενώνει το ανατολικό με το δυτικό κομμάτι της χώρας και που βρίσκεται στην περιοχή εξερράγη, είπε το επίσημο τηλεοπτικό κανάλι της Κίνας (CCTV). Ο πρόεδρος Λι Κετσιάνγκ ζήτησε από όλες τις τοπικές δυνάμεις να συνεισφέρουν στη διάσωση. Μεταξύ άλλων στην περιοχή βρίσκονται 500 πυροσβέστες και 30 σκυλιά για να βρουν τυχόν επιζώντες. Εκατοντάδες άτομα σε σωστικά συνεργεία ψάχνουν μέσα από τα ερείπια για να βρουν επιζώντες, καθώς η κατολίσθηση έχει καλύψει πολλά κτίρια με ένα παχύ στρώμα λάσπης. Από τα κτίρια που καταστράφηκαν, 14 ήταν εργοστάσια, 13 γραφεία και 3 ξενώνες. Το πρακτορείο Σινχουά μετέδωσε ότι 14 άτομα είχαν διασωθεί και πάνω από 900 απομακρύνθηκαν από την περιοχή μέχρι χθες το βράδυ. Iraq: US raid killed dozens of Iraqi soldiers

An Iraqi security official says a U-S-led airstrike has killed nearly 20 Iraqi soldiers and injured dozens more.

The official added that Americans deliberately hinder the advance of Iraqi forces into Daesh-controlled areas in and around the city of Fallujah in Anbar province. Al-Zamili blamed the so-called US-led coalition for the inability of Iraqi troops to enter Ramadi and Fallujah. He further accused the Americans of launching airstrikes or dropping aerial packages that provide weapons and equipment to Daesh. Earlier, the Pentagon announced the U-S-led airstrike in Fallujah might have killed dozens of Iraqi soldiers.

Daesh Takfiri terrorists have executed a dozen people by throwing them from a towering building in the Iraqi northern province of Nineveh.

The terror group killed 12 civilians in the center of the militant-held city of Mosul, the Arabic-language news website al-Sumaria reported on Saturday.

Daesh used the insurance company building, the tallest building in the city, located in Dawasa area, to carry out the execution.

This is not the first time Daesh Takfiris execute people by throwing them from tall buildings over various charges. For instance, on August 23, they killed nine people and on June 3, they claimed the lives of three more in Mosul by throwing them from the same building.

The terror group, which has been wreaking havoc in Iraq since June 2014, has recently been losing more ground to the country's army forces.

Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi said in a press conference earlier in the day that the terrorists used to control nearly 40 percent of Iraqi soil but the army has managed to retake most of it and reduced their control to about 17 percent.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh mounted an offensive, which followed committing vicious crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians.

The Iraqi army together with fighters from the Popular Mobilization units has been engaged in operations to liberate the militant-held regions.
