Russian President Vladimir Putin met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Sunday, where they discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.


SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "I think that despite the late hour, it is good to have the chance to talk about our bilateral relations, the problems that are of mutual interest and which we so determinedly try to resolve." 


SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): "I am very glad that we have the chance to have these talks. It is quite early in Europe now so we are quite fit to hold talks. I think the issues that we will have to discuss are really important so it is good that we have the chance to talk about them in a bilateral format. I mean the issue of Ukraine, for example."
