LIVE: CERN’s Large Hadron Collider restarts operations after 27 months

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, will begin carrying out actual proton collisions on June 3rd having been reactivated last month. On April 5th the collider was restarted for the first time in over two years, with protons beginning to circle the machine’s 27km tunnel. Scientists hope that through analysing the proton collisions, which will take place with almost double the energy LHC reached during the peak of its previous run, they will be able to begin to explore the realms of a “new physics” that extends beyond the Standard Model.
