Video footage of a shootout between guards and a suspected robber was taken during an attempted cash heist at Cape Town Station.
Footage shows a man dressed in blue opening fire at guards transporting money at the station. People at the station are seen hitting the floor as shots are fired.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk told The Citizen an incident of attempted robbery occurred at the Nolungile Railway Station on February 4.
“According to reports, at about 10.55am, six suspects armed with firearms attempted to rob a cash in transit vehicle. Three security guards were picking up money at the train station when they were shot at by unidentified suspects,” said Van Wyk.
“It is alleged that during the exchange of gun fire one of the suspects, a 30-year-old was fatally wounded whilst two security guards sustained gun wounds to their legs. Five suspects fled the scene empty handed. Police recovered two firearm.”

Last month, six people were arrested after an attempted cash-in-transit heist at Ogies, Mpumalanga.
The Hawks had received information of the planned heist and were waiting to pounce on the robbers, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.
Six robbers cornered and disarmed SBV security guards and were about to make off with an undisclosed amount of money when members of the Hawks’ tactical unit arrived.
A network jammer, two vehicles, the stolen money, and a firearm had been recovered.
