With the Olympics in full swing, the overwhelming dominance of major multinational corporate sponsors are raising questions about the power companies such as Coca-Cola and McDonald's exert over the Games.
The 2012 London Olympics has been labelled the costliest Games ever; a sporting spectacular with the tightest security operation in the UK since World War Two, and driven by multi-million dollar sponsorship. "It's not in the spirit of sport and healthy competition, it is in the spirit of making as much money as possible", says one protestor, Lindsey German. Organisers say they need the money from the big corporate sponsors to run the Games but many feel that the heavy-handed bullying by Olympics organisers to protect their corporate backers threaten the true spirit of Games. A staggering 75,000 British firms who designed, built and supplied material for the Olympic site are banned from publicising their involvement. To use the Olympics to market themselves, they must pay the Olympics a fee. "They say the Olympics is about sustaining and supporting communities, but they are actually demolishing our community".

Navy Conducts Pax River's First Flight Of X-47B Unmanned Aircraft

PATUXENT RIVER, Md. (NNS) -- The Navy made Pax River history July 29 after it conducted the naval air station's historic first flight of the X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System (UCAS) demonstrator.
At 11 a.m., the tailless, unmanned aircraft launched from Pax River and flew for a planned 35 minutes. The aircraft reached an altitude of 7,500 feet and an air speed of 180 knots during its flight over the Chesapeake Bay before successfully landing back at Pax River.
"This milestone event is the first of many flights at Pax River to demonstrate X-47B's compatibility with aircraft carrier flight procedures and launch/recovery equipment," said Matt Funk, UCAS lead test engineer. "The unique airspace and ship equipment at Pax River allow us to conduct the testing here before we land aboard the aircraft carrier next year."
The X-47B traveled from Edwards Air Force base, Calif., to Pax River in June to enter its next phase of testing. UCAS-D team members will utilize the specialized testing capabilities and facilities available at Pax River in the coming months to validate the X-47B's ability to perform in an aircraft carrier environment.
One of the testing facilities at Pax River is a simulated aircraft carrier environment, which will allow team members to ensure the aircraft is ready to operate in testing at sea. Land-based testing will establish X-47B has the ability to conduct precision approaches and to perform arrested landings and catapult launches prior to actual aircraft carrier operations.
"The X-47B's flight today is another important step closer to the Navy's vision of operating tailless, autonomous, unmanned systems from aircraft carriers," said Capt. Jaime Engdahl, Navy UCAS

Οι έξι στρατιώτες του αρ. 1532 ειδική ομάδα εργασίας έκαναν περιπολία σε τρεις μοτοσικλέτες στην Μάγιο-Palas δρόμο σε Ban Duwa της Tambon Thanom όταν ένοπλοι άνοιξαν πυρ εναντίον τους με όπλα πολέμου. Περίπου 20 ένοπλους μαχητές σε τρία φορτηγάκια άνοιξε πυρκαγιά στην ομάδα των στρατιωτών από τη στιγμή που πήρα κοντά τους. Τέσσερις στρατιώτες σκοτώθηκαν στην επίθεση και δύο άλλοι τραυματίστηκαν καθώς επέστρεψαν φωτιά. Οι επιτιθέμενοι πήραν τα όπλα των σκοτωμένων στρατιωτών και στη συνέχεια εγκατέλειψαν τη σκηνή μετά από μια σύντομη μάχη όπλο. λοχίας Luechai Junthong, Pvt Ekkarat Sitongmai, Pvt Pasim Hongmak και Pvt Benjarong Sikaew σκοτώθηκαν επί τόπου. Λοχίας Preeda Noppakhun και Pvt Akhom Chuklom τραυματίστηκαν σοβαρά και μεταφέρθηκαν στο νοσοκομείο Mayo. Οι αντάρτες έριξαν επίσης αιχμές για δρόμους που οδηγούν στο χωριό, σε μια κίνηση για να καθυστερήσει τη βοήθεια των αρχών, ανακοίνωσε η αστυνομία.
