Russian border guards seized in the Sea of Japan a vessel which bore the flag of China and on which found 22.5 tons of illegally caught squid. The border patrol boat "Tzerzinski" chased the Chinese vessels and finally fired him. In conflict, during the chase, one man from the Chinese vessel fell into the water and the search did not yield any results. "After the three-hour chase" Tzerzinski "warning shot out of cannon, but the boat did not stop and continued to do dangerous maneuvers, leading to impact with the patrol vessel "- declared at the border of Russia's FSB. All crew members of the board were Chinese citizens.

NASA | Before the Flare

The sun emitted a large flare on July 12, 2012, but earlier in the week it gave a demonstration of how gorgeous solar activity can be. This movie shows the sun from late July 8 to early July 10 shortly before it unleashed an X-class flare beginning at 12:11 PM EDT on July 12 as captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The flare isn't shown here, but the movie shows how the sun is constantly, and complexly, active. The region responsible for the flare, known as Active Region 1520, and sitting in the lower left part of the sun, crackles with giant loops of magnetized solar material that can help scientists understand how magnetic energy in the region creates these giant explosions. On the right side of the sun, the shimmering loops offer us the last vision of Active Region 1515 -- which was also responsible for many solar flares -- as it disappears out of view along with the sun's rotation. The movie represents light in the 171 Angstrom wavelength, a wavelength of light that is particularly good at highlighting these magnetic loops.

Franck Sorbier Couture Fall/Winter 2012/13 - Projection Art in Paris

PARIS - Franck Sorbier didn't want the crowd to focus on his couture only. While the French designer did showcase stunning designs at Paris Couture Fashion Week, he chose to enhance his Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection with equally stunning visual effects. He told the 17th century medieval story of Donkeyskin, a king who wanted to marry his own daughter. She escapes the king by demanding a series of gowns that are practically impossible to create. Still, the designer put a futuristic spin on the entire idea of "impossible gowns" by teaming up with Intel software for hi-tech effects that were projected off one model's gown. You'll have to see it to believe it!

Appearances: Isabelle Tartiere, Franck Sorbier

At 9:40 p.m. CDT a Soyuz TMA-05M rocket lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan carrying Expedition 32 Commander Yuri Malenchenko, NASA Flight Engineer Sunita “Suni” Williams and JAXA Flight Engineer Akihiko Hoshide to the International Space Station. It was a beautiful launch on a hot summer day at the Cosmodrome — watch the video after the jump:
(My favorite part was when the Soyuz punched a hole in the clouds!)
Exact time of the launch was 9:40:3.91 CDT, docking with the ISS will occur on Monday at 11:52 p.m. CDT. Read more about the crew of Expedition 32 here.

Of historical note, the Expedition 32 launch occurred on the same day that the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project launched in 1975. Designed to test the compatibility of rendezvous and docking systems and the possibility of an international space rescue, the nine-day Apollo-Soyuz mission brought together two former spaceflight rivals: the United States and the Soviet Union. Without the success of that project, we might not have had an International Space Station in orbit today.
