2013 Acura ZDX Luxury Crossover To Get Numerous Enhancements in its Final Model Year
The innovative and stylish Acura ZDX crossover vehicle, introduced in 2009, will receive numerous styling and technology enhancements for the 2013 model year, which will be the final year on the market for ZDX as the Acura brand sharpens its focus on new models and core products, the company announced today.
The 2013 ZDX will receive several new features, including a redesigned front grille, front and rear parking sensors, power folding side mirrors and safety features such as Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). The 2013 Acura ZDX will go on sale October 19, 2012, with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $50,920*.
"People shopping for a luxury crossover vehicle will find the Acura ZDX an even more attractive product," said Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of the Acura Division. "Moving forward, we will continue to advance the Acura lineup with a focus on new core models, like the recently redesigned RDX and the upcoming all-new RLX flagship sedan, that provide the ideal balance of performance and fuel efficiency that is right for each product and a driving experience that is dynamic and emotional."
The ZDX is built in the same Alliston, Ontario plant as the Acura MDX, which shares the platform with ZDX. As a result, ZDX production will be discontinued in conjunction with the transfer of the popular MDX to the company's Lincoln, Alabama plant in early 2013 (as previously announced).
For 2013, the Acura ZDX will be sold as a single, valued-added package offering clients greater value on a luxury scale. Robust features now standard on the 2013 ZDX include the 435-watt Acura/ELS Surround® 10-speaker audio system with 15 GB hard disk drive (HDD) memory, Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, 8-inch high-resolution VGA display, multi-view rear view camera, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® wireless telephone interface, ventilated and heated front seats with perforated premium Milano leather seating surfaces, Keyless Access System (with Smart Entry and pushbutton ignition) and dual-zone automatic climate control system.
The ZDX will receive several new exterior features for 2013, such as a redesigned front grille, front and rear bumpers with integrated parking sensors, power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors and a dark accent on the wheels for a sportier finish. The interior receives a new trim finish on the center console and a high contrast interior option.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) are two new safety features for the 2013 ZDX. The Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system can detect vehicles ahead of the ZDX. If the FCW system determines that a collision is possible with a detected vehicle, it provides the driver with visual and audio alerts to encourage avoidance actions. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) uses a camera mounted between the windshield and the rear-view mirror to detect lane lines on the road. If the driver begins to drift out of a detected lane without using the turn indicator, the system will provide the driver with visual and audible alerts.
The 2013 ZDX is equipped with an all-aluminum 3.7-liter V-6 engine that develops 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Performance is further enhanced by the ZDX's Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission that is designed to satisfy the most discerning enthusiast drivers. The 2013 ZDX EPA city/highway/combined fuel mileage is rated at 16/23/19 mpg**.
For customers seeking a great balance of utility and performance Acura will continue to offer vehicles in the luxury crossover space with the 5-passenger RDX and the TSX Sport Wagon. Οι επιστήμονες παρουσίασαν τα πρώτα αποτελέσματα των αναλύσεων των θραυσμάτων, που έχουν βρεθεί, από το μετεωρίτη, ο οποίος έπεσε στην Περιφέρεια του Τσελιάμπινσκ. Η χημική εξέτασή τους επιβεβαίωσε ότι έχουν εξωγήινη προέλευση.
Στην περιοχή της λίμνης Τσεμπαρκούλ οι επιστήμονες κατόρθωσαν να συγκεντρώσουν περίπου 50 μικρά θραύσματα του μετεωρίτη μεγέθους μερικών χιλιοστόμετρων. Με τη βοήθεια των σύγχρονων υπερευαίσθητων συσκευών κατέστη δυνατό να προσδιοριστεί ο τύπος του ουράνιου σώματος. Δεν υπάρχει καμιά αμφιβολία ότι πρόκειται για έναν κλασικό πετρώδη μετεωρίτη, εξήγησε στη «Φωνή της Ρωσίας» ο επικεφαλής της αποστολής του Πανεπιστημίου των Ουραλίων για την αναζήτηση του μετεωρίτη Βίκτορ Γκροχόφκσι:
Πρόκειται για έναν κλασικό πετρώδη μετεωρίτη, που ονομάζουμε «κοινό χονδρίτη». Στη σύστασή του έχει εντοπιστεί η συνηθισμένη περιεκτικότητα σε ορυκτά: ολιβίνη, αδιαφανή ορυκτά, τροϊλίτης, καμασίτης, ενώσεις, που μπορούν να σχηματιστούν μόνο στο Διάστημα. Στη Γη παρόμοιοι συνδυασμοί και δομές δεν υπάρχουν.
Οι επιστήμονες διέψευσαν ως αντιεπιστημονικές και ορισμένες φήμες, που εμφανίστηκαν στο Διαδίκτυο. Ειδικότερα ότι μαζί με τον μετεωρίτη μεταφέρθηκε στη Γη και μια νέα μορφή ζωής με τη μορφή βακτηρίων ή ιών. Αυτό είναι αδύνατο, λένε οι επιστήμονες. Τα θραύσματα, που εντοπίστηκαν, επιβεβαίωσαν ότι δεν πρόκειται για ανθρακώδη χονδρίτη, ο οποίος μπορεί να περιέχει στοιχεία οργανικών ενώσεων.
Φυσικά για τη λεπτομερή ανάλυσή του θα απαιτηθούν μεγαλύτερα κομμάτια. Ένα από αυτά έπεσε στη λίμνη Τσεμπαρκούλ, σχηματίζοντας οπή διαμέτρου σχεδόν οκτώ μέτρων, αλλά προς το παρόν δεν κατέστη δυνατό να εντοπιστεί στη θέση αυτή.
Άλλο ένα ερώτημα, στο οποίο οι επιστήμονες πρέπει να δώσουν απάντηση είναι γιατί ο μετεωρίτης βάρους περίπου 10.000 τόνων δεν είχε καταγραφεί ούτε σε έναν επίγειο σταθμό παρατήρησης του Διαστήματος. Έγινε δυνατός ο εντοπισμός του μόνο κατά την είσοδό του στα πυκνά στρώματα της ατμόσφαιρας. Η πύρινη σφαίρα κατευθυνόταν στη Γη με ταχύτητα περίπου 30 χιλιόμετρα το δευτερόλεπτο, λέει ο αντιπρόεδρος της Επιτροπής για τους μετεωρίτες της Ρωσικής Ακαδημίας Επιστημών Μιχαήλ Ναζάροφ:
Στο Διάστημα δεν καταγράφηκε, διότι ήταν μικρός σύμφωνα με την κλίμακα μεγέθους των αστεροειδών. Εφόσον τον παρατηρήσαμε κατά την είσοδό του στην ατμόσφαιρα, τότε πρέπει να υπολογίσουμε ότι η πτήση του εντός της ατμόσφαιρας, όπου διακρίνεται καθαρά και εμφανίζεται με τη μορφή βολίδας, διαρκεί περίπου μισό λεπτό. Στο χρόνο αυτό είναι δυνατόν μόνο να δοκιμάσουμε να προβλέψουμε πού ενδέχεται να πέσει και πόση θα είναι η εκλυόμενη ενέργεια. Αλλά να ληφθούν κάποια προληπτικά μέτρα, ώστε να εκκενωθούν περιοχές από τον πληθυσμό, είναι πρακτικά αδύνατο.
Στην Περιφέρεια του Τσελιάμπινσκ την ίδια στιγμή συνεχίζεται η εξάλειψη των συνεπειών της πτώσης του μετεωρίτη. Το ωστικό κύμα έσπασε τους υαλοπίνακες σε πολλά κτήρια. Δεν υπάρχουν νεκροί από το συμβάν, αλλά περισσότεροι από χίλιοι άνθρωποι τραυματίστηκαν από θραύσματα τζαμιών. Περίπου 40 άτομα νοσηλεύονται έως και τώρα στα νοσοκομεία.
Ο επικεφαλής του υπουργείου Εκτάκτων Αναγκών της Ρωσίας Βλαντίμιρ Πουτσκόφ υπολογίζει ότι το περιστατικό με τον μετεωρίτη του Τσελιάμπινσκ θα ωθήσει τους επιστήμονες στη δημιουργία τεχνολογιών παρακολούθησης των μικρών βολίδων. Ο ίδιος επίσης αναμένει από τους επιστήμονες προτάσεις σχετικά με το πώς θα ελαχιστοποιηθεί η επίδραση των βροχών των μετεωριτών σε κατοικημένες περιοχές, όπως οι πόλεις.

Motivation for the Xhibitionist comes from hybrid engines in the "powerplant gallery," but the carbon-fiber-bodied Xhibit-G supercar with its aluminum chassis gets more traditional gumption from a 630-horsepower V12. Oddly for a supercar, though, the car is limited to a top speed of 155 mph. Inside is white leather set off by black carbon fiber and chrome. The supercar is said to be for Zeus Twelve, a supercar brand working with Mansory and Lotus.

Έλληνας πολίτης ο οποίος εργάζεται στην εταιρεία Setraco στη Νιγηρία απήχθη το βράδυ του Σαββάτου. Σε συναγερμό οι ελληνικές αρχές
Ένοπλοι επιτέθηκαν σε κατασκευαστική εταιρεία στη Νιγηρία και απήγαγαν επτά ξένους εργαζόμενους από την Ελλάδα, τη Βρετανία, την Ιταλία και το Λίβανο, ενώ σκότωσαν τον φρουρό ασφαλείας της εταιρείας.
Το ελληνικό υπουργείο Εξωτερικών με ανακοίνωσή του επιβεβαίωσε την απαγωγή ενός Έλληνα πολίτη που εργάζεται στην εταιρεία Setraco στη Νιγηρία.
"Η πρεσβεία της Ελλάδος στη Νιγηρία βρίσκεται σε επαφή με τις αρχές της Νιγηρίας, τις άλλες ενδιαφερόμενες πρεσβείες και τους εκπροσώπους της εταιρείας για την αντιμετώπιση της κατάστασης. Το υπουργείο Εξωτερικών έχει ενημερώσει την οικογένεια του απαχθέντος" αναφέρεται στην ανακοίνωση.
Και το ιταλικό υπουργείο Εξωτερικών, από την πλευρά του, επιβεβαίωσε ότι ένας ιταλός πολίτης απήχθη κατά την επιδρομή, αλλά αρνήθηκε να κάνει γνωστό το όνομά του ή την ηλικία του.
Στη Βηρυτό, αξιωματούχος της λιβανέζικης κυβέρνησης που ζήτησε να μην κατονομαστεί δήλωσε ότι έχουν απαχθεί δύο Λιβανέζοι που εργάζονταν στη Setraco.
"Έγινε μια επίθεση το βράδυ του Σαββάτου στο χώρο της κατασκευαστικής εταιρείας Setraco στον τομέα της πόλης της Τζάμα (200 χλμ. από την πόλη Μπαουτσί) από άγνωστους ένοπλους", δήλωσε ο αρχηγός της αστυνομίας της Πολιτείας του Μπαουτσί, Μοχάμεντ Λάνταν.
"Επτά εργαζόμενοι της εταιρείας απήχθησαν. Σκότωσαν τον φρουρό ασφαλείας του χώρου" δήλωσε ακόμη, προσθέτοντας πως η αστυνομία διεξάγει έρευνες.
Οι δράστες είχαν προηγουμένως επιτεθεί στη φυλακή και σε ένα αστυνομικό τμήμα στην ίδια πόλη, αλλά απωθήθηκαν, δήλωσε ακόμη ο Λάνταν.

Since the dawn of rocketry, we've relied on the same basic technology to get us off the ground. Fill a cylinder with volatile chemicals, then ignite them in a controlled explosion. The force of the blast is what pushes the rocket up. Nowadays, chemical rockets are the only ones with enough thrust to overcome Earth's gravity and carry a payload into orbit. But they are not very efficient.
The heavier the payload, the more fuel a rocket needs to lift it into space. But the more fuel a rocket carries, the more fuel it needs. For long-range missions, most spacecraft rely on their initial launch speed to essentially coast to their destination. Flight planners often design routes that give the craft a gravity assist by sending it around the moon or another planet. One small cadre of scientists believes it has a quicker and more efficient way to get around in space.
Dr. Ben Longmier and his team from the University of Michigan have traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska to play a small part in a much larger push to revolutionize space travel and exploration.
The team plans to use helium balloons to send components of a new type of rocket engine to an altitude of over 30 kilometers, above 99% of Earth's atmosphere. The purpose is to test these components within the harsh environment of space. While astronauts train to live and work in zero gravity, or to move around in bulky space suits, these would-be space explorers are preparing to negotiate some of Earth's harshest environments.
Once they launch their payload, they have to retrieve it wherever it comes down in Alaska's vast snowy wilderness. The idea they are pursuing is nothing short of revolutionary. It's a type of rocket that promises far greater gas mileage than other rockets, and enough power to reach distant targets. It runs on the same fuel that nature uses, literally, to power the universe: plasma.

Τα ουράνια σώματα, η πτώση των οποίων παρατηρήθηκε την Τετάρτη στα Ουράλια, στη ρωσική περιοχή του Βόλγα, καθώς και στο Καζαχστάν, ήταν θραύσματα μετεωρίτη που εξερράγη στον ουρανό. Σύμφωνα με τις εκτιμήσεις της Ρωσικής Ακαδημίας Επιστημών, ο μετεωρίτης είχε διάμετρο μερικά μέτρα, ζύγιζε περίπου 10 τόνους και έτρεχε προς τη Γη με ταχύτητα 15-20 χλμ. το δευτερόλεπτο.
Στα πυκνά στρώματα της ατμόσφαιρας το ουράνιο σώμα διασπάστηκε σε μικρά κομμάτια. Χάρη σ΄ αυτό δεν υπήρξαν νεκροί και σοβαρές καταστροφές, πιστεύουν οι επιστήμονες.
Σύμφωνα με αυτόπτες μάρτυρες, στην αρχή ο ουρανός φωτίστηκε από μια έντονη λάμψη φωτός, μετά ακούστηκε έκρηξη και στον ουρανό εμφανίστηκε μια φωτισμένη σφαίρα, που άφησε πίσω της ένα πλατύ άσπρο ίχνος. Από το κύμα του αέρα από την έκρηξη έσπασαν οι τζαμαρίες πολλών κτηρίων. Τα θραύσματα του μετεωρίτη εν μέρει κατάστρεψαν τον τοίχο και τη σκεπή ενός εργοστασίου της πόλης Τσελιάμπινσκ. Ζημιές υπέστησαν και οι ηλεκτροφόρες γραμμές. Πάνω από 500 άνθρωποι ζήτησαν ιατρική περίθαλψη, βασικά με κοψίματα και μώλωπες.
Αν ο μετεωρίτης ήταν πιό στερεός και μεγαλύτερος, τα θύματα και οι καταστροφές θα ήταν πολύ μεγαλύτερες. Απλώς φανήκαμε τυχεροί, θεωρεί ο εμπειρογνώμονας του Ρωσικού Ινστιτούτου Αστρονομίας Ντμίτρι Βίμπε:
Το ηλιακό σύστημα είναι γεμάτο από ύλη. Εκτός των πλανητών σ΄ αυτό υπάρχουν και πολύ μικρότερα σώματα, οι διαστάσεις των οποίων μπορούν να ανέρχονται σε εκατοντάδες χλμ., ενώ άλλα μπορεί να έχουν διάμετρο κυριολεκτικά μερικών μέτρων. Φυσικά, αυτά τα σώματα κατά περιόδους συγκρούονται και μεταξύ τους, και με πλανήτες, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της Γης. Όταν ένα τέτοιο σώμα εισέρχεται στην ατμόσφαιρα της Γης, η ταχύτητά του είναι πολύ μεγάλη και ανέρχεται σε δεκάδες χλμ. το δευτερόλεπτο. Κατά την τροχοπέδησή του στη γήινη ατμόσφαιρα θερμαίνεται πάρα πολύ, αρχίζει να εξατμίζεται και εκλύεται πολύ μεγάλη ενέργεια. Αν το σώμα έχει μικρό μέγεθος, μπορεί να διαλυθεί πλήρως και αυτή η διάλυση μπορεί να φαίνεται από τη Γη σαν έκρηξη. Και τα τεμάχια, τα οποία δεν διαλύθηκαν ολοσχερώς μετά τη διέλευση μέσα από την ατμόσφαιρα, πέφτουν και ακριβώς εκείνη τη στιγμή αρχίζουν να ονομάζονται μετεωρίτες.

A mob stripped, tortured and bound a woman accused of witchcraft, then burned her alive in front of hundreds of horrified witnesses in a Papua New Guinea town, police said. It was the latest sorcery-related killing in this South Pacific island nation.
Bystanders, including many children, watched and some took photographs of Wednesday's brutal slaying. Grisly pictures were published on the front pages of the country's two largest newspapers, The National and the Post-Courier, while the prime minister, police and diplomats condemned the killing.
In rural Papua New Guinea, witchcraft is often blamed for unexplained misfortunes. Sorcery has traditionally been countered by sorcery, but responses to allegations of witchcraft have become increasingly violent in recent years.
Kepari Leniata, a 20-year-old mother, had been accused of sorcery by relatives of a 6-year-old boy who died in a hospital on Tuesday.
She was tortured with a hot iron rod, bound, doused in gasoline, and then set alight on a pile of car tires and trash in the Western Highlands provincial capital of Mount Hagen, national police spokesman Dominic Kakas said.
Deputy Police Commissioner Simon Kauba on Friday blasted Mount Hagen investigators by phone for failing to make a single arrest, Kakas said.
The public were apparently not cooperating with police, and police carrying out the investigation were not working hard enough, Kakas said.
"He was very, very disappointed that there's been no arrest made as yet," Kakas said.
"The incident happened in broad daylight in front of hundreds of eyewitnesses and yet we haven't picked up any suspects yet," he added.
Kakas described the victim's husband as the "prime suspect" and said the man had fled the province. Kakas said he did not know if there was a relationship between the husband and the dead boy's family.
He said more than 50 people are suspected to have "laid a hand on the victim" and committed crimes in the mob attack. While many children had witnessed the killing, there were no child suspects, he said.
Kakas said onlookers were shocked by the brutality but were powerless to stop the mob. Police officers were also present but were outnumbered and could not save the woman, he said. There is an internal investigation under way into what action police at the scene took.
Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga described the slaying as "shocking and devilish."
"We are in the 21st century and this is totally unacceptable," Kulunga said in a statement.
He suggested courts be established to deal with sorcery allegations, as an alternative to villagers dispensing justice.
Prime Minister Pete O'Neill said he had instructed police to use all available manpower to bring the killers to justice.
"It is reprehensible that women, the old and the weak in our society should be targeted for alleged sorcery or wrongs that they actually have nothing to do with," O'Neill said.
In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland condemned Leniata's killing as a "brutal murder."
"There is no possible justification for this sort of horrific violence. We urge that sufficient resources are devoted to identifying, prosecuting and bringing to justice those responsible," Nuland said. She added that the U.S. would continue to work with the Papua New Guinean government and civil society to address gender-based violence.
The United Nations' Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said the killing "adds to the growing pattern of vigilante attacks and killings of persons accused of sorcery" in Papua New Guinea.
In other recent sorcery-related killings, police arrested 29 people in July last year accused of being part of a cannibal cult in Papua New Guinea's jungle interior and charged them with the murders of seven suspected witch doctors.

Kakas could not immediately say what had become of the 29 since their first court appearances last year in the north coast province of Madang.
Police alleged the cult members ate their victims' brains raw and made soup from their penises.
The killers allegedly believed that their victims practiced sorcery and that they had been extorting money as well as demanding sex from poor villagers for their supernatural services.
By eating witch doctors' organs, the cult members believed they would attain supernatural powers.
Murder in punishable by death in Papua New Guinea, a poor tribal nation of 7 million people who are mostly subsistence farmers. But no one has been hanged since independence.
