Baloch Rebels Ambush Pakistani Military Convoy

The Balochistan Liberation Army (also Baloch Liberation Army, or BLA) based in Balochistan, a mountainous region of western Pakistan. The Baloch Liberation Army became publicly known during the summer of 2000, after it claimed credit for a series of bombing attacks on Pakistani authorities.
The group is currently headed by Hyrbyair Marri and has an estimated strength of 500 militants.
BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army), the brainchild of KGB that was built around the core of BSO (Baloch Students Organization). BSO was a group of assorted left-wing students in Quetta and some other cities of Balochistan. Misha and Sasha (former KGB agent) can be considered among the architects of the original BLA. The BLA remained active during the Russo-Afghan war and then it disappeared from the surface, mostly because its main source of funding – the Soviet Union – disappeared from the scene.
On 10 February 1973, Pakistani police and paramilitary raided the Iraqi embassy in Islamabad without prior permission of the Iraqi government, during which a large cache of small arms, ammunition, grenades and other supplies were found in crates marked 'Foreign Ministry, Baghdad'. The ammunition and weaponry was believed to be destined for Baloch rebels. Pakistan responded by expelling and declaring persona non grata the Iraqi Ambassador Hikmat Sulaiman and other consular staff. In a letter to President Nixon on February 14, Bhutto blamed India and Afghanistan, besides Iraq and the Soviet Union, for involvement in a “conspiracy … [with] subversive and irredentist elements which seek to disrupt Pakistan’s integrity” Wright-Neville writes that besides Pakistan, some Western observers also believe that India secretly funds the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). In August 2013 US Special Representative James Dobbins said Pakistan's fears over India's role in Afghanistan are “not groundless. Defense Secretary and former Senator Chuck Hagel said "India for some time has always used Afghanistan as a second front, and India has over the years financed problems for Pakistan on that side of the border"

On 17 July 2006, the government of the United Kingdom listed the BLA as a "proscribed group" based on the Terrorism Act 2000. The group's actions have been described as terrorism by the United States Department of State; BLA has also been declared as a terrorist organization by US & EU. There are allegations on Indian government's funding BLA for hostilities in Pakistan.

Guns in Puerto Rico: Locked and Loaded in the Tropics

At 91 per cent, Puerto Rico has the world’s highest overall percentage of homicides by firearms. But this statistic hasn’t stopped the NRA from setting up shop, establishing their 51st chapter in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico’s sky-high murder rates and extremely strict gun laws have only encouraged the association to fight for their constitutional rights, and arm the island with more and more guns. In 2014 alone, gun permit applications doubled, possession of guns tripled, and licenses for shooting ranges quadrupled the previous year's numbers.
Vice News traveled to Puerto Rico to look at the rising tide of firearms that are changing the commonwealth and the culture. We met up with street thugs, the Puerto Rican SWAT team, pro-gun advocates, a gun control politician, and a women’s gun group, to find out how the NRA’s 51st and newest testing ground is working out.

Luxury car brand Rolls-Royce Motor Cars reports record sales for 2014 and a fifth consecutive year of growth.

It's one of the oldest, most famous brands in the world - and its 2014 didn't disappoint.
In fact sales at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars have quadrupled since 2009.

"Flagship models like this, the Phantom, helped contribute to over four thousand sales for Rolls Royce in 2014. It's the biggest in the company's one hundred and eleven year history, and marks a fifth year of consecutive growth."
Providing the ultimate in luxury vehicles to the world's wealthy elite, the German owned company, with a quintessentially British image, recorded double-digit growth in most key markets, including the Middle East and Europe.
But the USA remains Rolls-Royce's biggest individual market with over thirty percent growth.
CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös says the company relies heavily on consumer sentiment.
[Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars]:
"In the United States where the confidence is fully back, the economy is booming. This also reflected into our sales numbers. Another example is Japan. Japan under Abenomics created also a big boom for us as well because it gave lots of confidence back into the entrepreneurs level of that country."
2014 saw the company launch Wraith, a sportier model.
Rolls-Royce says it's adapting to a new breed of younger consumers.
[Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars]:
"Eighty percent of our customers are entrepreneurs who build up their own businesses. And for that reason we have seen particularly in the Asian area of the market, but also of course North America, much younger people coming out of IT and other sectors and industrial sectors."
Other luxury goods labels may be taking a battering from a number of slowing economies.
But that's not likely to hit a company like Rolls-Royce, says ETX Capital's Joe Rundle.
[Joe Rundle, Head of Trading at ETX Capital]:
"The struggling global environment is very isolated away from the super rich, and the customers of 200,000 euro plus cars of the super rich. They appear to be getting richer and the market is growing in that segment."
The best-selling Rolls-Royce dealership last year was in Abu Dhabi.
Globally, six new dealerships were opened, including Mexico City, Calgary, and Gold Coast, Australia, with further expansion planned for 2015.

The new research vehicle F 015 Luxury in Motion has its world premiere at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2015), and provides a concrete example of the visionary ideas the company is developing with regard to autonomous driving of the future. With this self-driving luxury saloon Mercedes-Benz illustrates how the car is growing beyond its role as a mere means of transport and will ultimately become a private retreating space. This new way of travelling gives passengers the freedom to use their valuable time on the road in manifold ways.
The high-strength body of the F 015 Luxury in Motion ensures optimum safety and supreme comfort for its passengers. At the same time, the bodyshell's structure provides the ideal basis for the door concept that makes getting in and out especially easy, and for the communication-oriented seating featuring four lounge chairs in a face-to-face arrangement.
New materials and structures were used to develop the highly efficient "Smart Body Structure (SBS)" of the F 015. By cleverly combining carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP), aluminium and high-strength steels in a way that matches the varying requirements exactly, the lightweight engineering experts were able to make the bodyshell 40 percent lighter compared with today's production vehicles.
As a foundation for creating the F 015 Luxury in Motion, experts from all areas of Mercedes-Benz developed a future scenario entitled "City of the Future 2030+", which considered many aspects of mobile living.
The greater the advance of urbanisation, the greater is the desire of the individual to be able to retreat to a private sphere. Autonomous driving will become a given.
As drivers are relieved of work and stress in situations in which driving is not enjoyable, the time gained while in their car takes on a whole new quality. Time and space will become the luxury of the future.
New technologies and forms of communication open up numerous new possibilities for interaction, both between the vehicle and its passengers and between the vehicle and other road users.
Autonomous cars also open up new possibilities for urban infrastructure design. Following the example of today's low-emission zones in city centres, special "safety zones" that are only accessible to autonomous vehicles could be created. Urban space would be regained by autonomous vehicles parking themselves on the periphery.
In the shared space of the future, humans and machines share the roads. The "car-friendly city" is transformed increasingly into the "people-friendly city" without any loss of individual freedom. The divide between residential, recreational and traffic areas therefore melts away. The result is superior quality of life for all urban dwellers.
