BRUSSELS-RESPONSIVE. With a keyword phrase, Nicosia, with the help of Athens, failed to win a major battle in the European Council ended yesterday to ensure the final conclusions of a determined response from its European partners over escalating provocative actions in Ankara Cypriot EEZ. Thus, the text of the conclusions of the summit of 28 EU leaders included the statement that "the recognition of all Member States is a necessary component of the accession process," as he had published only yesterday the "K". This reference seems particularly important, as the non-recognition of Cyprus by Turkey is the beginning of all the problems between the two countries and "why the Turkish vessel is currently doing research in the Cypriot EEZ" as highlight relevant sources.
Speaking after the conclusion of the summit, Prime Minister Ant. Samaras, who represented Cyprus due to the illness of Mr. N. Anastasiadis, said: "I had the authority to present the positions of President of Cyprus, which is common with my own, for the challenges of the Turkish Cypriot EEZ.""There is an important decision which Europe calls on Turkey to respect Cyprus, its territorial waters and its sovereign rights in the EEZ, and reminded that each candidate country, Turkey and therefore, it is required to recognize all the Member States and Cyprus, "he added. Samaras.
Furthermore, the representative of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, stated "delighted" for strictly messages sent by the EU at the highest level, that of the Heads of the Member States. He also stressed the importance of the fact that this report in 2005 had been in the form of a declaration by the European Commission today, but returns at Head-Member States.
On Wednesday morning the Cypriot side started contacts with the office of the outgoing President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy. The aim was to include in the final text of the conclusions strict special reference to Turkey. While the first draft of the conclusions was rather disappointing for the Cypriot government, as there was a strict tone and intensity like, immediately began a second round of communication with the office of Mr. Rompuy and second draft. The third draft was finished, plus the disputed phrase from the Greek Cypriot side and, as Mr. Antonis Samaras represented Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis, who was in hospital with epistaxis Brussels.
"We waited for none of the heads of that phrase," a Cypriot official said, and during the session the only leader that makes interference asking a softer approach was the British Prime Minister David Cameron. According to reports, Mr. Samaras replied and followed during the session, a conflict between them. Apart from the Greek prime minister, the position defended Cypriot and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who said that "there is no rule that does not have the EEZ, why not have the Cypriot democracy?".
The importance of the decision as a clear message to Turkey also emphasized Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos, stating that "a country can not have ambitions to join the EU without recognizing one of the member states of the EU. "
