Bermudas And A Back-Pack -- The Suspect In The Israeli Bus Bombing

Bulgarian investigators believe they have identified the suicide bomber who blew himself up on a bus yesterday, killing five Israeli tourists and the bus driver.

Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov described the suspect, with his bermudas and back-pack as indistinguishable from thousands of other travellers.

It is believed he put a bag in the luggage compartment of the bus and then climbed aboard. Many of the injuries suffered by the dozens wounded in the blast were to lower limbs.

Israel is pointing the finger at Iran although Tehran has formally denied any involvement in this, the first attack on Israelis on Bulgarian soil.

However Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolai Mladenow said it was a "mistake" to blame countries or groups while an investigation is ongoing.

Police are still trying to identify the suspect. They say he was 36 years old and carrying a fake US driving licence issued in the state of Michigan.

STORMS TIME

On 25th May 2009, Cyclone Aila devastated southern Bangladesh, leaving an estimated 8,000 dead and over 1million homeless.

The IPCC claims that by 2050 1 in 7 Bangladeshis will be a climate migrant, forced from their homes due to ever-advancing sea levels, and the saline contamination and unemployment that inevitably ensue. With their land under water and their crops destroyed, many southern Bangladeshis have been forced to abandon farming for fishing, an industry that can only employ a fraction of the people who once worked on the now-vanished rice fields. As one former farmer explains, 'My conscience tells me to leave, but where else can I go? It's like a prison here.'

Deadly Bomb Blast In Thailand Ahead Of Ramadan

Two people have been killed and four wounded in separate car bombing in southern Thailand.

The blast ripped through a shopping area, setting fire to a commercial building in the small town of Sungai Kolok, which is close to Malaysia.

Four residents escaped to the top of the complex and were rescued by fire crews.

The explosives had been packed in a vehicle parked on the street and was triggered as people gathered at a morning market.

Meanwhile, in the nearby province of Yala, a local resident was killed in a roadside bombing.

Authorities had warned that militants were likely to attempt a large-scale attack ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
