Nur 7 von 500 gestarteten Fahrern erreichen das Ziel in der Erzbergrodeo-Arena, der Österreicher Lars Enöckl (KTM) landet auf dem hervorragenden 6ten Rang.

Foto: Red Bull Philip Platzer Tausende Zuseher erlebten heute bei wechselhaftem Wetter die Antwort Großbritanniens auf die Frage, wer wohl das Erbe des abwesenden Seriensiegers Teddy Blazusiak beim Red Bull Hare Scramble antreten würde. Nach rund 100 qualvollen Minuten krönte der 21-jährige Jonny Walker seine noch junge Karriere mit dem Sieg beim prestigesträchtigsten Xtreme-Enduro der Welt. Landsmann Dougie Lampkin (Gas Gas) belegte wie 2011 den zweiten Platz, ein überglücklicher Ben Hemingway (UK/KTM) feierte als Dritter sein erstes Podium am “Berg aus Eisen”. Nach dem britischen Trio kamen nur mehr 4 weitere Fahrer innerhalb der etwas verkürzten Renndauer ins Ziel, der 23-jährige Niederösterreicher Lars Enöckl wurde als Sechster erneut bester deutschsprachiger Athlet im hochkarätigen Starterfeld. Der anhaltende Regen am Vortag ließ das Red Bull Hare Scramble zu einer wahren Schlammschlacht werden. Nur die schnellsten 500 Piloten aus dem GENERALI Iron Road Prolog durften am Sonntag an den Start gehen, die extremen Bedingungen auf der knapp 30 Kilometer langen und extrem selektiven Strecke trennten schon nach wenigen Checkpoints die Spreu vom Weizen. Rutschige Geröllhalden, aufgeweichte Steilstufen, tiefe Wasserlöcher und glitschige Waldpassagen sorgten für kochende Motoren, sich überschlagende Motorräder und völlig erschöpfte Fahrer.

Foto: flohagena.com Für den Großteil des Starterfeldes war der Extremsport-Nachmittag bereits bei Checkpoint 6 von 20 vorbei, und selbst Topathleten wie Husabergs Xavi Galindo (ESP), Homero Diaz (MEX/KTM), Baja-1000 Seriensieger Norman Kendall (USA/KTM) oder Gerhard Forster (DE/Husqvarna) hatten keine Chance auf eine Zielankunft. Das Rennen musste schließlich wegen Nebels und schlechter Sicht 30 Minuten vor dem offiziellen Zeitlimit von vier Stunden frühzeitig beendet werden. Während hunderte Starter heute fluchend und entkräftet vom mächtigen Erzberg aus dem Sattel geworfen wurden, ließ Jonny Walker der Freude über seinen ersten Red Bull Hare Scramble Sieg freien Lauf: „Dieser Berg ist erbarmungslos, Karl Katoch hat uns wieder durch die Hölle geschickt. Aber ich hatte ein gutes Rennen und bin überglücklich über diesen wichtigen Sieg!”  Auch Österreichs Newcomer in Sachen Xtreme-Enduro Lars Enöckl kann mehr als stolz auf seine Leistung sein. Nachdem der sympathische Lunzer nach dem Start sogar die Führung übernahm, lag Enöckl lange Zeit hinter Walker auf Rang 2. Im berüchtigten Streckenabschnitt Carl’s Dinner musste Enöckl dann zunächst Trial-Superstar Dougie Lampkin passieren lassen und wurde bis ins Ziel noch von drei weiteren Fahrern überholt. Die kräfteraubende Strecke rang dem talentierten Österreicher alles ab. „Jede Stelle an meinem Körper schmerzt, am Ende überwiegen aber doch die Freude und die Faszination.“, sagte Enöckl im Ziel. Die Mitfavoriten Graham Jarvis (UK/Husaberg) und Andreas Lettenbichler (GER/Husqvarna) mussten aus der Wertung genommen werden, weil sie irrtümlich einen Streckenabschnitt ausgelassen hatten.

Für das Brüderpaar wurde der Steirische Erzberg heute zur ganz besonderen Bühne, denn Moretti und Bloéb durften dank Wildcard mit den Startnummern 501 und 502 aus der letzten Startreihe ins Rennen gehen und sammelten beim Red Bull Hare Scramble wertvolle Erfahrungen für ihre Teilnahme an der legendären Rallye Paris-Dakar. „Ich bin glücklich, dass wir hier dabei sein durften. Das ganze Event war eine einzigartige Erfahrung für uns, und ich habe größten Respekt vor der Strecke und den anderen Fahrern.
